Destroy All Humans! is a pretty tight game, satirically capturing B-movie alien attacks with a GTA-type approach to gameplay; it’s only flaw seems to be a lack of being completely original.
(This is a review that I did before I started grading games, so the grades are based on my retrospective opinion of the game.)

Killer7 gained hype both through amazing stunning graphics, and word of mouth as being a piece of art rather than a game. While the end product is a strong, plot-driven game with graphics that still live up to the initial reports, the end result has some rough spots, with the game itself getting in the way of being able to appreciate Killer7 as art.
The game takes place “now”; you play as a member of an elite assassin group called Killer 7 (hence the title), which (at the start of the game) seems to be made up of 7 distinct persons but that are able to switch places with themselves at will. The backstory is developed throughout the game, and explaining more would be definitely spoiling. Your key enemy are various members of a anarchist organization called “Heaven Smile”, which have found a way to dress themselves in small, undetectable but deadly explosives and thus are able to easily get close to their required targets (including yourself). Meanwhile, the launch of a huge number of missiles appears to be ready to wipe Japan off the map; it is possible to stop it if the right people can be taken out in time. The fate of the nation states of the world are at hand, and only the assassination group of Killer7 can determine the end result.

(This is an early review I did on Shacknews prior to my more normal approach (fixed for some spelling problems) and the new ratings are based on my opinions then and today on the game)
Ok. This game qualifies as one of the weirdest, yet most enjoyable games I’ve seen in a long time. It has nearly no other game that can be said to be in the same genre, and really clears it’s own niche.

For those that miss text adventures or LucasArts style games, or like anything offbeat, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attoney for the DS is definitely a fun, strong plot and character-driven game that can fill the niche with some pretty good brain-teasing puzzles.
Phoenix Wright, simply, is one of those odd Japanese games, based weakly on their classic dating sims, that has been translated to English and brought onto the DS platform. In Phoenix Wright, you play as Phoenix, a just-off-the-bench defense attorney on his first 5 cases in court, defending the innocent of murder charges. The game is set in the near future, where the justice system has been radically revises as to have all criminal court cases take at most 3 days, thus requiring a significant burden of proof on the defendant. As the player, you have to work your lawyer-y skills in court to disprove witnesses’ testimony with evidence and information that you collect, and prevent the prosecution from overruling you. The game, while based on the idea of Japanese dating simulations, feels that it has strong comedic influences from the Adult Swim show, “Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law” in that shouts of “Objection!” and “Hold it!” stand out like the cartoon onomatopoeia effects from Batman, key points are punctuated with fighting sound effects, and the bumbling attitude of Phoenix, though the game’s plot is still (mostly) firmly grounded in reality. I think it’s more that stateside, without the popularity of Harvey Birdman, this game would have had little chance to succeed without a major media push, but with it, the game can easily become popular by word-of-mouth.
