kill.switch (PS2) - Review
kill.switch is Namco’s attempt in 2003 to create a new type of third-person shooter. Considering other games at the same time, the general game was rather poor, but there was one aspect of this game that made me interested in playing it, that being the cover system, which has been stated to be the predecessor to that used in Gears of War and other tactical third-person shooters. It is interesting to see how close to what we see in games today was already present in kill.switch, though the game suffers major faults from being too short and too linear throughout.

God of War: Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the God of War series, moving from the PlayStation 2 to the PSP by Ready at Dawn studios. Despite the change of platform and developer, the game retains the great flavor that the other two God of War games in both action, setting, and presentation, with the only major mar being the poor PSP controls that the game requires. It is also a bit on the short side, but it definitely is fun while it lasts.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot is Monolith’s and Sega’s sequel to one of the 360’s launch titles, Condemned: Criminal Origins; while the original game was not a huge seller, it was pretty decent in combining a dark, terrifying atmosphere and the idea of observing crime scenes to make a good story. Fortunately, the sequel provides exactly more of the same, fine tuning some parts, expanding the repertoire of make-shift weapons that can be used, and basically providing a stronger story that builds on the first while strongly suggesting that a third game will be developed. Beyond a few minor problems, this game definitely is as good if not better than the first.
Army of Two is a third-person shooter from EA Montreal which introduces the concept of fighting as an army of two, whether in single player or co-op mode. The core concept of the game is the Aggro system, whereby you can direct the enemy’s attention on yourself or your partner, allowing the other to move forward undetected and letting them flank the enemy. The system is pretty nice, but I felt it wasn’t used to its fullest extent; furthermore, the game’s not very hard or very long, and suffers a bit from that.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Nintendo’s highly anticipated followup to the Gamecube’s Super Smash Bros. Melee. Not only does the game expand the cast of characters, now including Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog to the core Nintendo cast, it adds in some new gameplay features such as Assist Trophies and Final Smashes, to make the game exciting. Add in the ability to play both single player and with others over Nintendo’s Wi-Fi network, and there’s countless hours of gameplay. The game has definitely lived up to the hype that it has been generating over the past few years.
.hack//G.U. Volume 3: Redemption is the third and final entry in the second .hack series, published by Bandai-Namco, which allows you to continue your progress from the previous games in the series. The series ends somewhat predictably and not too impressively, and while there are some changes in the battle strategy that come about due to the higher difficulty of the monsters that you face, this also manages to help expose some of the weaker aspects of the game’s interface and hardware limitations that would have been nice to identify a couple titles back.
Destroy All Humans! 2 continues Pandemic’s mix of open-world and shooter, mixing up the formula from the first game a bit without affecting too much of the humor or other aspects to make a pretty decent sequel. Unfortunately, some of the changes come at the expense of making the game almost a non-challenge to complete, and thus resulting in a title, while interesting, is hard to spend an appreciable amount of time playing.
Destroy All Humans! is a pretty tight game, satirically capturing B-movie alien attacks with a GTA-type approach to gameplay; it’s only flaw seems to be a lack of being completely original.
